Title 33 - Navigation and Navigable Waters
This part establishes a standard numbering system for vessels and a uniform vessel casualty reporting system for vessels by prescribing requirements applicable to the States for the approval of State numbering systems. As used in this part: Operator means the person who is in control or in charge of a vessel while it is in use. Owner means a person who claims lawful possession of a vessel by virtue of legal title or equitable interest therein which entitles him or her to such possession. Reporting authority means a State where a numbering system has been approved by the Coast Guard or the Coast Guard where a numbering system has not been approved. Reporting authorities are listed in Appendix A of Part 173 of this chapter. Chapter 123.
