42 C.F.R. § 491.2 Definition of shortage area for RHC purposes.
Title 42 - Public Health
Shortage area means a geographic area that meets one of the following criteria. It is— (a) Designated by the Secretary as an area with shortage of personal health services under section 330(b)(3) of the Public Health Service Act; (b) Designated by the Secretary as a health professional shortage area under section 332(a)(1)(A) of the public Health Service Act because of its shortage of primary medical care professionals; (c) Determined by the Secretary to contain a population group that has a health professional shortage under section 332(a)(1)(B) of that Act; or (d) Designated by the chief executive officer of the State and certified by the Secretary as an area with a shortage of personal health services.
