Each person designated to provide medical first aid on board ship, or to take charge of medical care on board ship, shall hold documentary evidence attesting that the person has attended a course of training in medical first aid or medical care, as appropriate. [CGD 95–062, 62 FR 34537, June 26, 1997, as amended by USCG-2004–18884, 69 FR 58343, Sept. 30, 2004] The Officer in Charge, Marine Inspection will issue such documentary evidence to the person, or endorse his or her license or document, on being satisfied that the training required under section 12.13–1 of this section establishes that he or she meets the standards of competence set out in STCW Regulation VI/4 and Section A-VI/4 of the STCW Code.
