Title 46 - Shipping
(a) All vessels except barges shall carry at least the minimum number of fire axes as set forth in table 76.60–5(a). Nothing in this paragraph shall be construed as limiting the Officer in Charge, Marine Inspection, from requiring such additional fire axes as he deems necessary for the proper protection of the vessel. (b) Covered barges shall carry at least three fire axes and uncovered barges shall carry at least two fire axes.
