The purpose of the regulations in this subpart is to establish requirements for officers serving on roll-on/roll-off (Ro-Ro) passenger ships. Roll-on/roll-off (Ro-Ro) passenger ship means a passenger ship with Ro-Ro cargo spaces or special-category spaces as defined in the Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea, 1974, as amended (SOLAS), to which a SOLAS certificate is issued. To serve on a Ro-Ro passenger ship after January 31, 1997, a person licensed as master, chief mate, licensed mate, chief engineer, or licensed engineer shall meet the appropriate requirements of STCW Regulation V/2 and Section A-V/2 of the STCW Code (incorporated by reference in §10.102) and shall hold documentary evidence to show his or her meeting these requirements.
